Dr. Z. Petek Cakar is a full-time Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology & Genetics, Istanbul Technical University (ITU).
She received her B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Chemical Engineering and B.Sc. degree in Molecular Biology & Genetics from Bogazici University, Istanbul, and her Ph.D. degree from ETH-Zurich. After a postdoc in Biozentrum, University of Basel, she joined ITU in 2001. She was a visiting professor at the University of Sassari in 2011. Her research interests are metabolic engineering and evolutionary engineering (adaptive laboratory evolution), including improvement of stress resistance and productivity in yeast and other industrially important microorganisms.
