Microbiologist and molecular ecologist
Rudolf Amann is a German microbiologist and molecular ecologist. He is director of the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology in Bremen, Germany, and head of the Department of Molecular Ecology there. Amann’s research focuses on the biodiversity and ecological role of marine microbes and their interactions with the environment. He is particularly interested in the interaction of marine phytoplankton and bacterioplankton, as well as in prokaryotic taxonomy. Amann has published his research in high-ranking peer-reviewed journals and received numerous renowned awards. He is a member of the Leopoldina and the European Academy of Microbiology.
